Women in Data Science @ Qatar university

KINDI Center for Computing Research hosted the “Women in Data Science” (WiDS) Conference in the International Women’s Day on 8th March 2018, which was in collaboration with Stanford University. The event was a part of Cyber Women, a KINDI initiative to encourage and empower women towards STEM. The main goal was to discover new local STEM role models and share inspiring success stories from Qatar. WiDS in Qatar was a KINDI Collaboration with Stanford University.

The event started with a registration and networking session for the guests followed by a welcoming speech by Dr. Noora Fetais representing KINDI lab, Qatar University. After that Dr. Frank Fitzpatrick presented a speech as a sponsor of the event represeting the British Council. Then the event continued by success stories sessions given by shining role models in Qatar such as Dr. Dena Al-Thani (HBKU, Qatar Foundation), Dr. Karma Sherif (IS, QU), Dr. Sumaya Al-Maadeed(CSE, QU), Dr. Amel Hassan (SIDRA, QF) and will never forget to mention about the amazing Dr. Halima Bensmail(QCRI, QF) as the session Chair. Then we had a break and some students presented posters about their projects selecting the best of them as a winner for a small competition. This was followed by fun activities with the audience. Next, there were parallel workshops.
